Budget and Finances


In 2014, the institute's budget came to € 15.3 m. The development of income from 2010 to 2015 depicted in the diagram shows that the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs and Media, Energy and Technology (BayStMWi) provided basic funding amounting to € 4.0 m in 2014. € 11.2 m third-party funds were raised as well as € 0.1 m other revenues. The third-party funds comprise € 9.3 m from public project funding and € 1.9 m from industrial sources.

The institute's expenditure in 2014 comprises € 7.9 m in personnel costs, € 2.9 m in material costs and € 4.5 m in investments. Research was carried out in a total of 237 projects involving 257 partners.



Staff and Premises


At the end of 2014, ZAE Bayern had 216 staff members. The majority of the employees came from the fields of physics, mechanical engineering and materials science. Women made up 27.3% of the staff. The institute provided 38 doctorate students, 5 graduands, 8 postgraduate students writing their master thesis and 7 trainees. Students and trainees constituted 27.8% of the staff.
