Budget and Finances


In 2016, the institute’s budget came close to € 16.6 m. The development of income from 2012 to 2017 depicted in the diagram shows that the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs and Media, Energy and Technology (StMWi) provided basic funding amounting to € 4.0 m in 2016. € 12.5 m third-party funds were raised as well as € 0.1 m other revenues. The third-party funds comprise € 10.5 m from public project funding and € 2.0 m from industrial sources.Research was carried out in a total of 231 projects involving 326 partners.



Staff and Premises


At the end of 2016, ZAE Bayern had 229 staff members. The majority of the employees came from the fields of physics, mechanical engineering, and energy technology. Women made up 20.1 % of the staff. The institute provided 34 doctorate-, 12 master- and 4 bachelor students, and 9 trainees. Students and trainees constituted 28.9 % of the staff.
